Fear of getting stuck in the wrong law firm?

How you do one thing, is how you do everything

Are you disciplined and devoted, yet find your motivation waning because the conventional life trajectory doesn’t feel right for you?

I understand exactly how you feel.

Despite being the top scorer in my course, I felt a lot of traction while studying diligently as an external student.

When I imagined my future, I couldn’t see myself in a specific landscape. I needed the freedom to explore all possibilities.

So, I took a sabbatical year after my first year of university. If you’re worried about the fear of being stuck in a law firm you don’t like as a professional, or the fear of disappointing your loved ones, I’ve been there.

Despite my parents’ (and my own) fears, I wasn’t stuck. Instead, I began building while moving forward.

It worked, and this experience is why my coachees, despite being so different, find my approach effective:

I’ve walked the path.

Identifying the wrong firm

Choosing the right law firm is a pivotal decision in any lawyer’s career.

However, the fear of getting stuck in the wrong law firm can be overwhelming, especially for corporate lawyer mothers who juggle demanding professional responsibilities with personal commitments.

This fear is not only about job satisfaction but also about career growth, work-life integration, and long-term fulfillment.

At some point, you have to stop somewhere long enough to put down roots. Isn’t it?

Lack of growth opportunities:

If you find yourself in a firm with limited opportunities for advancement or professional development, it can lead to stagnation.

Unhealthy work environment:

Toxic work cultures, poor management, or lack of support can make daily work life unbearable.

Misalignment with values:

If the firm’s values and practices don’t align with your personal and professional ethics, it can create a constant internal conflict.

Work-life (dis)integration:

For corporate lawyer mothers, a firm that doesn’t support work-life integration can be particularly challenging, affecting both career and family life and bringing to disintegration. Yes, it can destroy your vision, your marriage and even your self-esteem!

Building while moving forward

If you find yourself already stuck in a law firm that doesn’t feel right, remember it’s never too late to make a change.

I’m a big fan of building while moving forward, because it works. No big secrets, no scamming. Think of building a building: you proceed in construction… by building!

That’s why I devote a lot of time to helping women in law, whether they hold senior positions or are just starting out in their practice.

How about overcoming together the fear of being in the wrong law firm and carefully evaluating all opportunities?
